It is possible to create a service type to pass on credit card processing fees to clients in TheraNest.

We do advise that you check your state requirements before setting this up. Some states do not allow surcharges: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, Oklahoma, and Texas – these states made surcharges illegal. It’s also important to highlight that surcharges on debit card purchases are illegal in every state.

Adding surcharges to credit card purchases is also governed by the individual card issuer. Currently, only Visa and MasterCard allow merchants to pass on fees; American Express and Discover prohibit merchants from doing so as part of their terms of service. As a result, some merchants may only accept MasterCard and Visa. The law also states that surcharges must be applied to all transactions, or not be charged at all.

Please take some time to research further according to your state requirements. Remember that these laws and requirements can change at any time; take care to stay up-to-date.

Here's our guide for setting up service types in TheraNest, in which case a Credit Card Fee service type could be created:

Once the service type is added, you can select it as a line item in client invoices along with session fees.

From the Agenda, click Add Invoice > Edit Invoice > + Add Invoice Item and select the fee's service type.

From the client's Ledger page, click New Invoice > + Add Invoice Item and select the fee's service type.
